Laying out the moat for enterprise GenAI
Happy Sunday!
Two topics for this week's newsletter:
Salesforce is laying out the AI moat
Podcast with Brian Davis - Director of Business Technology at Louisiana State University - where we talk about AI applications in the education sector, startups, and skill stacking.
Salesforce's AI Day: A Look into the Einstein GPT Trust Layer
On June 12, Salesforce held its inaugural AI Day, demonstrating its commitment to and capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI) and, more specifically, #GenAI. Salesforce currently generates over 1 trillion AI predictions per week within its product suite, with a significant inventory of 210 AI patents and 227 published AI research papers. Additionally, Salesforce's Data Cloud continues to grow exponentially, ingesting 12 trillion data points annually.
The day's highlight was the Einstein GPT Trust Layer unveiling, a groundbreaking product developed to bridge gaps in the AI realm. This innovative solution addresses common AI issues such as data control, bias, toxicity, and hallucinations.
The Einstein GPT Trust Layer targets three pivotal areas: bolstering inter- and intra-enterprise trust, promoting anonymized zero retention generation, and fostering an open model ecosystem. This multi-pronged approach ensures comprehensive coverage of potential AI pitfalls, raising the bar in the field.
The Einstein GPT Trust Layer has many functionalities, including secure data retrieval, dynamic grounding, toxicity detection, auditing, and zero retention. The zero retention feature ensures the complete deletion of any prompt input into a large language model (LLM), significantly increasing data security.
In terms of architecture, Salesforce clarified that the new product integrates seamlessly, positioned above the Data Cloud and open model layers but beneath the "builders." Furthermore, Salesforce confirmed it would persistently integrate more GPT functionalities throughout its expansive technology suite.
As an advocate for ethical AI, I am intrigued to see the Einstein GPT Trust Layer occupying this critical "middle layer" within an AI ecosystem. At the same time, it's interesting how Salesforce has effectively laid out an AI moat - ensuring that enterprise customers lean heavily on Salesforce for scaled applications of #genAI when using or processing any PII (personally identifiable information) within the Salesforce Clouds.
Applied Intelligence Podcast: The Power of Learning, Grit, and Startups: A Conversation with Brian Davis
In this episode, I interview my friend Brian Davis - Director of Technology at Louisiana State University and budding entrepreneur. We discuss the topic of generative AI and how it can be used to make life easier, both at work, with our kids, and at home. Brian shares his experience using chat GPT to help his daughter with her chemistry studies and how he has incorporated this tool into other areas of his life. We also dive into his approach to learning and applying new things in his day-to-day work.
Brian also emphasizes the importance of skill stacking and finding ways to use the skills that you learn in other areas of your life. He also shares his approach to time management and setting achievable goals.
Highlights:
Brian's experience using chat GPT to help his daughter with chemistry studies
The benefits of personalized learning through generative AI
Brian's approach to learning new things and applying them in his day-to-day work
Productivity hacks for busy professionals, including skill stacking and time management
